Exhibition showcases artist's Allen Valley paintings

A historic exhibition brings together the work of pitman painter Oliver Kilbourn and art critic William Feaver - including a number of pictures of the Allendale area. Tamzin Lewis finds out more.

Their friendship was forged through a love of art. Oliver Kilbourn was the miner who discovered an innate talent for capturing the world around him and William Feaver, pictured, is an art critic who now favours landscape painting over writing.

Plays enacts Allenheads miners' journey

The lead mining industry has left its imprint on the North Pennines landscape.

But beyond the physical remains are the stories of the mining families, many of whom were forced to emigrate as the industry changed and went into decline.

Rachel Clarke, who lives in Stanhope in Weardale, has not only studied the exodus of these workers but has followed in their footsteps.
